Many Korean beauty practices have been passed down for generations and today, most of the traditional Korean beauty products have been revamped to suit the modern woman. These days we have creative and innovating packaging ranging from cute animal packaging to sponge and silicone cushions. However, the major ingredients that work the magic are still the same.

Here are some of the traditional Korean beauty secrets that we still enjoy in our beauty products today:

Snail Mucin
Snail enzyme is a major active ingredient that contains a load of protein, glycolic acids and elastin, which all have anti aging benefits for the skin. You will find snail extract in some of your sheet masks.

Snails have very soft bodies, despite the fact that they literally slide over rocks and other hard surfaces. This is because they protect their bodies with this slime. When they get cut, they use the slime to heal themselves.
For our skin, the snail extract restores the skin by supplying enough moisture and boosting cell regeneration to keep it young and firm.

Bee venom
This extract contains a compound called melitten, which researchers have found to be one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory properties that can be used on the skin. Many brands these days, both Korean and Western, use it in their anti aging products.

The bee venom breaks down cell membranes in your skin, to trick it into thinking it is under attack. Your skin will respond by working twice as hard to produce enough collagen and relax the facial muscles, promoting younger looking skin. Many people use bee venom as an alternative to Botox.

Ginseng contains properties that boost collagen production in the skin. It is also effective as a natural skin whitener and helps to treat melasma, which is a skin condition caused by sun effects, hormones and heat. It heals the skin and brightens it for an even complexion.

Tea tree oil
Considered as one of the best non-irritating antiseptics for the skin, many brands have been built as tea tree brands, where all their products contain tea tree oil. This is because tea tree oil is very effective in treating acne. It is gentler on the skin and contains less potential side effects than other widely known acne treatments.

It works by clearing sebum build up from the skin without stripping the skin of its natural moisture and oils.

Pig collagen
The collagen produced in pigs is very similar to the one we produce as humans. When that collagen is used in our beauty products and we apply it, it helps maintain a youthful appearance as our skin is given a collagen boost. This will help protect and increase skin’s firmness and elasticity.

Rose oil
This active skincare essence is gotten from the Rose flower and it has multiple amazing benefits for the skin. It contains Vitamin A and C and other minerals. It is also loaded with antioxidants.
This oil helps to boost moisture in the skin, prevent and treat inflammation and also provide antiseptic benefits for acne prone skin. It is also a good anti-aging ingredient as its properties help to delay skin aging signs such as fine lines and wrinkles.
